The Summer Fair brought our school community together
Our Summer Fair brought children, families, staff and members of our wider community together for an afternoon of fun, connection and fundraising.
What an incredible day and what an incredible achievement for the FoLF team!
Our Summer Fair raised an amazing £7,500, making it a record for the event.
The fair was hugely well attended by both the school community and the wider local community. In fact, people from outside the school were asking if they could come along, a wonderful testament to how FoLF’s events have become part of the wider community.
Months in the making
Although the fair takes place over just a few hours, the work behind it begins months beforehand. A planning team makes the initial decisions, gets communications out and brings the wider team together. In the days leading up to the event, an enormous amount is prepared, gathered and organised.
Then comes the big day when all those months of planning have to come together in record time. And, with the notable exception of the small matter of freezing the ice pops, everything ran incredibly smoothly!
A fair full of fun
The food team kept everyone fed with a very busy burger conveyor belt and a very hot kitchen! The bar was busy throughout the afternoon, keeping everyone well hydrated (with plenty of ice). Face painting once again had a huge queue, while the crafting and tattoos were a big hit. There was plenty of excitement around the enormous toy stall too particularly when that very large teddy bear appeared!
And the games kept going right until the end.
A stage for our children
The music was another highlight. The band, supported by Imogen’s team, rehearsed well before the event so they could support the children’s song choices. Reception’s Power in Me was sung with plenty of gusto, while individual children and groups had the opportunity to shine on stage. And there was a very special performance to finish the day, when Imogen sang her own song. Imogen has given so much of her time to FoLF events over the years, and the opportunity for children to perform alongside her is something that will stay with them.
A huge thank you
This year’s fair was only possible because of the enormous amount of time, energy, creativity and expertise contributed by the FoLF team and wider community. We’re also saying goodbye to two members of the core team this year. Paul has supported FoLF as our media designer, creating the unique and eye-catching designs that have helped bring our events to life. And Imogen has given an extraordinary amount of her time to FoLF events and to creating musical experiences for our children. The school hopes to be able to purchase a stage as a lasting legacy of Imogen’s support.
£7,500 raised — what happens next?
The money raised at the Summer Fair will contribute to FoLF’s wider work supporting children at London Fields Primary School. This year’s fundraising is particularly important as FoLF looks towards its next priorities, including supporting each year group to take a special trip and helping to keep the school and playground cooler through shading and tree cover.
